Did you lock the front hubs?

I have a 2004 Phaeton with a W12. I've had it for a little over 2 years and have not spent the kind of money you're talking about. Brakes, all around, cost me about $800CDN. Any/all other servicing (that I couldn't do myself) has been quite reasonable. Servicing has not been done at a VW dealership. Couldn't afford that. LOL.

I have a 2015 LS 600hL (executive model) and my dashboard de-lamented - leather just peeled back near the front window. Mine is garaged with 51K miles. Lexus did nothing to correct the problem and replacement cost were - honestly - 16K for new dashboard and 2.5K to install. So I had is re-wrapped and a restoration shop in Denver for 3K - which is good as they did not take out the dashboard. What I also did was legally tint the front windshield to eliminate the UV rays. Disappointed that Lexus did not stand behind their mistake. I want to share my story with all Lexus owners. Yes, I am keeping the car - mechanically is it solid.

Hello, i also installed the same unit in my car with fiber optics, after installation sound becomes dostorted really early before high volumes. Oroginal unit sounded much better and louder. Now i can't listen music on high volumes because of distortion. Any advice ? My car is boxster so when top is off i can't hear music enough at all :( with old unit it sounded more than enough...

Hi and what a great video. I bought my first ever Lexus gs 450h 2006 some 4 weeks ago. There’s 95% of things I can relate to in my car. Like you I absolutely love my Lexus and I wonder why I never took the plunge and bought a Lexus in the past. I especially like the regeneration when I take my fioot off the pedal. I think every car should have this by default. The one thing that does take me by surprise is when the engine kicks in and out otherwise it’s a small reliable “hippo “that I find drives really well now that I’ve set the suspension in sports mode ( handles really well)

Glad i own a Opel Monza made in 1984 with the old GM R12 system from the 80s meaning R12 freon and a Harrison A6 compressor and the best is i got my hands on 20kg R12 (a full 13kg cylinder a 5kg cyl and some ebay USA cans from several years back wenn it was legal on ebay and customs had no idea). But i feel a criminal from my own wallet putting the good old R12 in the system wenn R-290=pure propane but LPG (Propane mixed with a bit Butane) as we call here cost like 0,9$ a litre and it works fine,the so called refined stuff u brought is just a rip off and normal bbq propane would work the same....... I know R290/propane is flamable but ure in the cabin and wenn a accident happens,the engine bay most likely will get a ac leak there and if it burns ure protected by the cabin plus its a few 100 gram amount so its not a hollywood explosion. Wenn i go charge my system as the car is parked in a barn for several years (there is pressure on the system still) i will put in propane.

Good job with the install and the video. I have a 2005 Boxster S with the Bose system. The cd unit has quit working and my display works when it feels like working. I dont have Navigation, rear camera, or a cd changer. I have been dreading replacing the stereo, so your video has given me a boost toward tackling the job. I also plan on installing the rear facing camera. Thanks for the video!

Mario I feel like your update is a lot more buggy than mine. I installed it last week on my 600 and noticed it was considerably faster to boot up, and none of the weird effects you have dealt with. Could be that your hardware is a little older as well - I know they made minor changes over the years and I bought my vline in 2020. BTW - I had a great result using the rear seat entertainment with a chromecast - that way I can cast from the vline to the rear screen while continuing to use the functions in the front. I'm not sure what Grom's implementation of the HDMI out would be other than a secondary screen output and honestly if that is the case it's probably better not to use it!

The 996 Turbo has been in my sights since 2016. Unfortunately I couldn't afford it back then and now they've gone up by about €20000 so it's still out of reach...😕 Will have to make due with the 1989 944S2 Cabriolet I already have for now.

One thing i dnt understand,my xc 60 2010 produced has 270000 km n it runs like new,super good condition.Interior n outside.How come majority of cars that have lower milage looks like they have 1000000 km??? I dnt think this car has only 200000.

For me the Android 12 update feels faster, I estimate about 60% faster in most things, even things like the time from connecting the phone to when carplay appears. I was surprised really. The biggest difference for me is now there is a display size option in the settings which allows you to increase the DPI making android apps like youtube much more usable. I see there has been some updates since the initial release a month ago, so maybe my experience is not the same as this video suggests. I expect there will be a lot of tweaking in the coming months, if they can restore the way the navigation bar worked instead of the popup menu button it would be better, constantly going in/out of the popup navigation is a bit annoying.

My brake lights work but i have a failure code C1A40. And check hybrid system, check pcs and cruise control dosnt work. RX 450H. Should i just replace the break light switch and hope thats work? 😅 But the lamps its not always on the dashboard. When i drive maybe like 30 minutes the lamps are on the dashboard. But the "check hybrid system is always on"

I have a GROM for my Volvo V50 as well. Works great!! But it is the GROM without screen. MST4 is believe. Good Video thanks.

insurance here in the netherlands will be € 1400 per year. Ah and road taxed €1120 per year. and octane 98 is about €2,25 per litre. So even without any maintenance it's already a big financial burden..😢😢

That whole steering wheel is incorrect. It's for 85-87 models. The 88-89 models had the four spoke wheel.

The Andriod based headunits in the US are just as problematic. Id look into the Sony/Alpine units. The UI on those are way more stable and have better sound options.

the most recent update a few days ago fixed the landscape issue with apps. I don't like the new way of navigating with the unit as the icon will stay even when running videos in full screen. I would have to say the old navigation bar was better as it would auto hide after a few seconds.

Great video as always Mario. I've purchased the update also but I've been holding off on the update for now and following the various Facebook user groups to make sure it's stable before I install it. I use Android Auto wirelessly with my Vline in the LS460. You can also adjust the DPI in the menu for Android Auto and get more real-estate on the screen (I like mine between 115 and 125) I think GROM also released an update for that Portrait mode issue recently. I recently heard of a company here in Australia that makes a Linux based integration for Android Auto called Crown Focus. Anything happens to my Vline, I'll go down that route personally. That POP is concerning. It could blow up the speakers. Hope it gets a little better for you eventually.

I updated mine to 12.0 and I notice that connecting to my phone from cold start, auto resume AA/CP from warm start, and UI is generally much faster than compared to older android version. The CP UI is the exact same (they should definitely update this to reflect the newer A12 UI to match) but the other pages, settings, button icons are much nicer and sleeker. I bought the pre-order and got it for $24.99 and I had the update ready to install within the second day of release. I also get the speaker pop-in noise when I cold start the car. One other thing I noticed, maybe just a Apple/CP bug, but CP Maps will freeze and stay in place. I just have to turn on and off the ignition and it fixes itself quickly and is not a huge issue in daily usage. This time, before the A12 upgrade, I did install all the GApps and it caused the head unit to factory reset, which it does warn you about when you try to install. Just make sure to read carefully. I did notice that it did keep my iPhone as an option both after the GApps install, and the A12 update, which was nice. Overall I’m pretty impressed but there’s still a long way to go. I still think $35 is highway robbery considering I paid $600 for mine in November 2021. If I had a choice to do it all over again from the start, I’d still probably go with the GROM VL2 or if I really wanted to save money, go with the chinese knockoff with the vertical Tesla-style screens. On reporting for Apple devices: it’s smooth, seamless, and does a great job of auto-launching CP when I get in, loaded up before I put the car into D. It seems like it also improved the sound quality of music but could be a placebo.

Thanks for the review! I've tried Grom maybe like 5 years ago and wasn't impressed, so when I finally needed a Carplay unit for LS, I did my research and found Teyes CC3. They are using some chinese hardware (which you can actualy buy yourself and save some money) but I believe the software is developed in Australia. I contacted the guys, discussed with them and was ensured that everything should work as intended. Including steering wheel buttons, front (and rear) AC controls, backup camera, etc. I've ordered the unit with upgraded screen (2k) and I can say I was very impressed with the quality of the hardware as well as software. Install is a bit hard, since you need to change the OEM screen and frame, as well as wire backup camera (at least in UCF31), but apart that, it's plug & play. And I can say I'm very happy with it. If you are looking for a Carplay/Android Auto device for LS and want to update not just the software but the screen also, you should look into it.

Anyone brave enough to try one of the chinese units and report back?

Thank you for the very informative video. I own an LS600hL that I absolutely love. It is my 4th Lexus and by far the best car I have ever owned. I got all the bells and whistles on it, upgraded chrome wheels, and just about every other option available. Lately, I have considered upgrading to a newer car simply so I can connect my android phone to my Mark Levinson system and get Spotify streaming and Google Maps. It's a very difficult decision as there are so many options (i.e. FM demodulators, 3rd party bluetooth connections which are really FM demodulators), using the AUX input, etc.) I was considering getting the Grom VLine VL2 system as it looked like a great way to update my system. At the end of your video, you said that although you love the Vline VL2, if you had it to do over again, you would consider a different solution primarily due to the VL2's old Android version and how the hardware was too obsolete and insecure - especially for the price. I looked at your list of other possible solutions that replace the OEM screen. I reviewed quite a few of them, but none of them were perfect. I was concerned how they might affect the fantastic Mark Levinson audio system I have. It is a fantastic system where all the components are very well balanced with a great sound. Your video was extremely helpful as it showed how the ML system was not affected, but I was concerned about the outdated interface and especially about the Android version not supporting newer apps. As I continued to search for a solution, I found that the Grom Vline VL2 just released a new VLine VL2 with Android Version 12 on June 25th. It looks like this Android 12 upgrade will provide support for the latest apps that might not be available for the old Android version 8.1 such as USB audio, LTE modems, separate video out for rear seat displays (HDMI OUT) and a more polished Android UI. I am ordering this new Grom VLine VL2 and take one for the team. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again for taking the time to make such an informative video for us all to consider. Back to my question. Why not buy land, and build your dream garage, with a bedroom attached? You mentioned in the previous post that land is expensive, but the plot size still is 200k cheaper than with the house, and almost 300k with the renovation.
